PALM COAST, Fla. – UCF (6-under 284) has a six-stroke lead after the first round of the 2017 American Women’s Golf Championship Sunday afternoon at the Conservatory Course at Hammock Beach Resort & Golf Club.

The Knights’ round of 284 is the lowest 18-hole total in American women’s golf championship history. Houston, the defending conference champion, held the previous lowest round mark with a 285 set at Hammock Beach’s Ocean Course in 2016.

Senior Ashley Holder (-3, 69), who is tied for third overall, leads three UCF players in the Top 8 after the first 18 holes of play. Kaeli Jones (-2, 70) and Maria Balcazar (-1, 71) are tied for fifth and eighth place, respectively.

SMU and Houston each tied for second place with a 2-over 290.

Houston sophomore Leonie Harm is the individual leader. Harm’s round of 66 (-6) set a new championship record for an individual low 18-hole total. The previous low of 67 was set by Frida Gustafsson Spang (East Carolina) and Ashley Burke (USF) at Hammock Beach’s Ocean Course in 2016 and 2015, respectively.

Harm leads the field in Par 3 scoring, birdies (10) and is tied for the lead with Tulane’s Gabrielle Correia in Par 4 scoring.
