UTRGV Baseball Wins WAC Championship

Could 18, 2019 – EDINBURG, Texas – The College of Texas Rio Grande Valley baseball group received its first Western Athletic Convention (WAC) Championship and clinched the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye within the WAC Event by beating Utah Valley College (UVU) 12-2 in eight innings to shut out the common season on Saturday at UTRGV Baseball Stadium.

The win, coupled with California Baptist’s 9-Four win at New Mexico State, permits UTRGV (34-19, 19-Eight WAC), California Baptist and New Mexico State to completed tied for first place as co-WAC Champions.

That is this system’s first convention championship on the NCAA Division I stage and first since 1955, when this system was a co-Large State Convention Champion.

UTRGV opens the WAC Event on Thursday at 5 p.m. at Hohokam Stadium, the spring coaching residence of the Oakland A’s, in Mesa, Ariz.
